Burning Hell se grabó en 1959 en Detroit, pero el álbum no se publicó hasta 1964. Incluso entonces, solo estuvo disponible en el Reino Unido. Esta edición en vinilo de 180 gramos marca el primer lanzamiento mundial oficial del álbum en formato sencillo. Prensado en QRP en colaboración con Acoustic Sounds, el álbum presenta a John Lee Hooker en solitario interpretando temas originales y clásicos. AllMusic afirma que, en este álbum, «Hooker demuestra ser un excelente intérprete que podría haber estado a la altura de los mejores músicos de blues del Delta de cualquier época».
